Squires Insurance Ready For Second Year With Tough Enough To Wear Pink
For the second straight year, Squires Insurance is the sponsor of the Tough Enough To Wear Pink events during the Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede.
The annual golf tournament is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wolf Point Airport Golf Course. Then, Tough Enough To Wear Pink is recognized at that night’s rodeo.
Latoya Holen and Bethany Toews of Squires Insurance were approached to take over after Jan Bryan retired after many years of volunteering for the Tough Enough To Wear Pink activities.
“It’s a great cause,” Toews said. “We’re excited to support this community.”
The golf tournament featured 25 four-person teams last summer.
“We had a great turnout and it’s just a good time to be had by all,” Toews said.
The same $50 entry fee will be requested this year. The fee includes nine holes of golf and lunch.
Holen and Toews added that there will be several more prizes this year. They laugh that they know more what they are doing compared to last year.
Last year, Toews golfed in the tourney while Holen, Brock Copenhaver and club officials managed the tournament.
One fun aspect is presenting a prize to the best dressed golf team.
“Everybody should come with their most creative team outfits,” Toews said.
Since 2009, the Tough Enough to Wear Pink program in Wolf Point has raised $83,627.47. The highest amount of funds raised at the local level prior to 2023 was $4,304 in 2016. The Tough Enough To Wear Pink campaign set a local record for funds raised in 2023. Last year’s event raised $7,249 including a $2,392 gift from tough Enough To Wear Pink of Montana.
Tough Enough to Wear Pink provides a nationally-recognized campaign and framework for rodeos and western events to help them promote breast cancer awareness and fundraising to benefit their local communities.
Since its inception in 2004, TETWP has empowered rodeos and western events in the U.S. and Canada to focus attention on the need for a cure. To date, the campaign has raised over $41 million for breast cancer charities, much of which stays right in the community.
