Brockton Hosts 52nd Badlands Celebration

The 52nd annual Badlands Celebration in Brockton saw a number of girls, sister and jingle specials throughout the three-day event.
“Badlands Celebration was great this year,” Wolf Point City Council Member Lance FourStar told the Northern Plains Independent. “My experience this year included ensuring my granddaughter Kymani Archambault represented my clan as the Red Bottom senior traveling princess as our ambassador. I was also asked to help the director of Fort Peck Tribal Veterans, Medicine Bear Lone Warrior, who is also the Badlands Celebration Flag Bearer. We continue this way of life according to protocols that have been passed down for generations to showcase our cultural art through months of preparing regalia, perfecting songs and conditioning ourselves for the stamina needed to last week throughout powwow season.”
Dance categories included golden age, men’s, women’s, teen girls/boys and junior girls/boys. Tommy Christian and Charlie Moran were emcees and Raymond Olson was arena director. Grand entries were hosted all three days.
Badlands royalty included senior princess Gracie Lambert, senior first attendant Ashlynn Miller, senior second attendant Haeli Clark, junior princess Brynlee Nygard, junior princess first attendant D’lanie Spotted Bird, senior traveling princess Laityn Spotted Bird and junior traveling princess Kenzley Clark.
Activities throughout the weekend included a cornhole tournament Friday and a coed softball tournament Saturday. A candlelight ceremony was hosted by Spotted Bull Recovery Resource Center Friday night and walk/runs were hosted by SBRRC and HPDP Saturday and Sunday.
