New Weight Room In Wolf Point Attracting Many Students

Wolf Point students are taking advantage of the opportunities provided with the weight room addition at Wolf Point High School.
The weight room project and new wrestling room’s project cost about $3.3 million and was completed during April. The project was paid for through ESSER (Elementary and Seconday School Emergency Relief) funds and some impact aid.
Teachers Anthony Red Cloud and Scott Montgomery supervise the activity Mondays through Thursdays. Sessions run from 7-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. The sessions are open for students in grades 7-12.
Red Cloud said between 20-25 students attend each day. There are close to 30 on some days. The lowest turnout was 21 students.
“Our numbers have improved constantly,” Red Cloud said.
He explained that the morning sessions is usually mostly girls after open gym for basketball. The afternoon session is largely boys after open gym.
“They are really enjoying the space to do everything,” Red Cloud said.
Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball coach Cole Hanks said that only about two of his players went to the weight room last summer and now about 15 students attend.
“It’s being utilized,” Hanks said.
Red Cloud said the weight room’s schedule will continue until about the second week of August when fall sports begin practices.
“It’s been nice,” Red Cloud said. “I’m glad the kids are using it.”
He notes that the weight room sessions are for all students.
“It’s not just for the athletes, it’s for anybody that wants to work out,” Red Cloud said.
