MMIP Walk Planned In Poplar For May 5
A walk has been planned in Poplar to mark a national day of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons awareness efforts.
The event is set for Monday, May 5, at Poplar High School, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The walk route will begin at the school and proceed through downtown Poplar.
According to Angeline Cheek, the agenda for the event will include an opening prayer and remarks from Fort Peck Tribes Chairman Justin Gray Hawk, a discussion on the Montana MMIP Task Force and related processes; lead criminal investigator Kenneth Trottier will give a talk on MMIP statistics and prevention efforts; BIA special agent Raul Figueroa will discuss drug trafficking and prevention; and Dylan and Misty Youpee will discuss Dakota values and provide closing prayers.
Participants are encouraged to bring signs displaying the names of missing friends and/or relatives.
