Clean Sweep Days Beautification Efforts Continue In Wolf Point
Wolf Point residents are reminded that Clean Sweep Days are scheduled from April 28 to May 10 this year. The Wolf Point landfill will accept clean sweep trash at no charge during these days. In addition, the landfill will be open on Sunday, May 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
At the landfill, appliances requiring Freon removal will be charged a $10 removal fee. Contractor/construction waste will be charged regular rates.
Bagged trash and yard waste can be left curbside (not in alleys) for city pickup throughout that week and also on May 5-9. Keep yard waste separate from metal items and bag your leaves.
Although itâs a special scheduled time to spruce up the city, Wolf Point beautification committee members Rosie Kurokawa and Barbara Olson stress that making the community look great should be on the mind of residents throughout the year.
âTake pride, itâs up to the community,â Olson said.
Kurokawa added that she wants people to realize that the committee is just a volunteer group and encourages volunteers to help with the effort.
The Fort Peck Tribes and Fort Peck Housing are partners in Clean Sweep Days.
Kurokawa urges business and property owners to step up and help clean their locations. âLetâs not have the town talked about in a bad way. Have them say âwow, look what the town has done.ââ Olson encourages residents to help their neighboring elders by cleaning up their lots.
Members of the beautification committee, which started in 1989, are thankful to the Lions Club, the Optimist Club, hospital employees, high school groups and Gospel Fellowship Church for cleaning up portions of the town.
The Take Action Tuesday committee has also been a hit on late Tuesday afternoons, early evenings. Kurokawa reports that 480 pounds of trash was collected on the west end of town on April 8.
âWeâve had a real good turnout, itâs been nice,â she said. Volunteers on Take Action Tuesday have included a traveling girlsâ basketball team and their parents.
Residents are encouraged to grab a bag to pick up garbage during walks or to make it a family effort.
âMake it a fun day and teach them citizenship,â Kurokawa said. âItâs our responsibility.â
