The Culbertson School board met Tuesday, April 18.

Chair Paul Finnicum opened discussion on the superintendent’s search by explaining the current process and timeline. The deadline for applications closes May 5. The board has control over the process and can adjust the timelines if necessary. Comments were received regarding expediting the process to interview and/or offer contracts.

A special meeting was held at 6 p.m. prior to the regular meeting so trustees could conduct an interview with Nicole Simonsen, a superintendent candidate.

Trustee Eric Bergum made motion to offer a superintendent contract to Simonsen for 2023-2026 for $97,000 per year and a $1,500 per month housing allowance.

The motion was approved pending the release of Simonsen’s contract with the Lambert School District.

Chance Hyatt was approved for hire as high school cross country head coach.

The boys’ basketball head coach position is referred to negotiations committee to conduct interviews.

Trustee Luke Anderson made a motion to hire Colby McGinnis for high school girls’ basketball head coach, but the motion failed with trustee Bergum, Mark Colvin and Ian Walker voting against. The position has been referred to negotiations committee.

High school speech and drama head coach Jeri Gustafson was rehired.

The kindergarten staff was rehired, as were the following positions: Wendy Nickoloff and Karen Brock for first grade, Theresa McDonald for third grade, Rhetta Wilson for fourth grade, Angi Iverson and Lee Vandall for fifth grade, Pam Welch for K-12 art, Courtney Forbregd for K-12 counselor, Chris Olson for K-12 library, Jennesy Taberna and Russell Pfeifer for K-12 music, Brad Nielsen for K-12 physical education, Janelle Ator for K-12 special education, Tiffany Nielsen for junior high science, Jimie Lou Morris for junior high math, Amy Berwick for junior high English, Mark Pederson for Junior high social studies, Jeri Gustafson for 7-12 Title I, Bill Carlisle for 7-12 business, Logan Nickoloff for 7-12 ag education, David Solem for high school social studies, Shelly Salvevold for high school English and Darla Mogga for high school math.

The resignations of Leanne Knapp and Joy Young were accepted with thanks from the board.

Spring testing is being finalized. Track meets have been canceled due to the weather.

The technology committee will be scheduled in early May to work on the tech budget.

Thiel Brothers should begin work on the Armory roof when there is no longer frost at night.

Marissa Little Whiteman and Jennifer Lambert were approved for hire as part-time custodians through the end of the school year.

Bus route contracts for 2023-2028 were sent to negotiations committee.

The clerk contract was renewed with Lora Finnicum for 2023-2026 with $2,000 annual salary increases.

Amanda Bushlen, Alicia Wilbanks, Jimie Lou Morris, Christian Damm, Perla Burciaga, Marissa Little Whiteman, Macy Lambert, Jonas York and Haleigh Buck Elk were approved for hire for summer custodial staff. Wendy Nickoloff and Theresa McDonald were approved for summer computer cleaning.
