Music students did well at the district music festival held Friday and Saturday at Poplar High School.
Debby Cattell’s 30 member choir, grades 7-12, earned superior ratings on Shine Jesus Shine and God Bless America and an excellent on sight reading.
The band, under the direction of Dan Marasco, earned all superior ratings on Toccata & Chorale by Curnow and Come Thou Fount by Standridge. Thirteen solos and ensembles, under Marasco’s direction, entered competition and 10 of them qualified to compete at state music festival on May 5-6 in Billings.
Soloists were Mason Hilkemann on sax; Rachel Pew, vocal; Hannah Marasco, piano and vocal; Hannah Brown on piano; and Anna Teichroew on clarinet.
Ensembles qualifying for state were Nathan Fast and Diek Olfert, trombone-trumpet duet; Diek Olfert, Abby Olfert and Grace Brown, trumpet trio; and Nathan Fast, Cayden Clatt, Rachel Pew, Hannah Marasco and Anna Teichroew in a quintet.
Music students of various private music teachers will give a recital at 4 p.m. in the Lustre Christian High School auditorium on Sunday, April 30.
The LCHS spring music concert will be held on May 3 at 7 p.m. at the EMB Church.
The state music festival on May 5-6 also includes a college fair with colleges represented that have music programs.
Lustre Christian High School’s drama class will present two one-act plays — The Click of the Remote written by Al Leland and
The Presidents of Mount Rushmore by Gloria Emmerich — on April 20-21 at 7 p.m. at the Lustre Grade School. The evenings are a fundraiser of the freshmen class and the drama class. Dessert and coffee is available by donation during intermission. Call 406-3925735 for more information on tickets.
