Reservation Possible Site For Hydrogen Fuel Project
According to the Billings Gazette, the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes are in talks regarding a possible hydrogen fuel project in the area.
Organizers hope the project can be folded into a fourstate partnership involving Montana. If realized, the Fort Peck Reservation would play host to a hydrogen plant producing fuel for the trucking industry, as well as a carbon sequestration site and wind farm.
According to Lee Montana Newspapers, the tribes are in the process of registering a new corporation, the Assiniboine- Sioux Hydrogen Company, which will become the majority owner in a partnership with developer Cyan H2 LLC. At press time, tribes vice-chairman Charlie Headdress could not be reached for comment regarding the project.
The U.S. Department of Energy recently made $750 million available for research and development of projects that reduce the cost of clean hydrogen. The goal is to make commercial-scale hydrogen available by the end of the decade.
