Storms Pile Up, Snow To Slow Down By Friday

National Weather Service Glasgow based meteorologist Ryan Bernhart told the Northern Plain Independent

at press time Tuesday that snow piling up from Glasgow to Culbertson should pause briefly before a second system hits Wednesday, bringing additional accumulations to the region through the end of the week. Travel has been impacted on U.S. Highway 2 and area county and city roads. Bernhart said vehicles were being reported off the highway east of Glasgow Tuesday morning. Vehicles have been reported off the road in spots from Nashua to Brockton since Monday morning.

“Conditions are pretty icy in spots right now with blowing snow and vehicles off the road,” Bernhart said. “Visibility has also been an issue.”

Drivers are advised to proceed with caution.

Temps are expected to see highs in the teens with lows in the single digits until Friday, when highs could climb into the high twenties.

“Next week should be a little drier,” said Bernhart. He said high temps for next week should be in the mid-thirties.

Bernhart said accumulations Tuesday morning in Glasgow were up to 3.3 inches by 5 a.m. He said snowfall amounts are likely to be similar in Wolf Point, Culbertson and Bainville.

“The heaviest accumulations will be in the counties to the southeast,” Bernhart said. “It will be lighter up near the border with Canada.”

Bernhart said a second storm system is expected to cross the continental divide from the Pacific Northwest Wednesday, delivering another 3 to 5 inches to affected areas. He said the snow should be finishing up late Thursday, early Friday.

“It’ll probably be past the Montana/North Dakota border by Friday morning,” he said.
