Bed Races Added To Stampede Activities

It appears that bed races will be another fun activity during this year’s Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede.

The planning committee for the 100th Stampede met on Tuesday, Feb. 28, to continue working on the schedule for the July 5-8 celebration.

Members of the volunteer fire department attended the meeting to see how they could assist to make sure the celebration runs smoothly. Later in the meeting, the firefighters said that bed races were a highlight in the past and will head that activity tentatively scheduled for that Saturday afternoon.

In addition, the firefighters might offer games such as having a dunk tank on one of the afternoons.

Stacie FourStar talked about how the Wolf Point Community Organization is supporting a horsemanship clinic and a pow-wow taking place.

The Spotted Bull Treatment Center will host horse clinics during the Stampede.

FourStar said the parade could include past Stampede queens and Native American floats.

Steve Harada of the Wolf Point Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited said they will also assist during Stampede’s activities if needed.

The “Saddle Up and Open Chutes For the 100th Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede,” is scheduled for May 5, at the Elks Lodge. Snacks will begin at 6 p.m., and the auction will start at 7 p.m.

Organizer Jerald Petersen said the “fun”-raiser will feature between 10--20 quality items including paintings.

The Stampede festivities will start Wednesday, July 5, with a steak fondue at the Big Sky Corral and the Wild Horse Ranch Rodeo, followed by the Kyle Shobe and The Walk ‘Em Boys concert, located at the Marvin Brookman Stadium.

The ranch rodeo will begin at 6 p.m. The meal is anticipated to be from 4-6 p.m.

Grand marshals selected for the Stampede are Clint and Arlyss Long, 40-year Wild Horse Stampede committee members who served as chairman and secretary for many years.

Other activities will include a carnival, re-enactors, inflatable games for children, Art in the Park and the 100 club’s chair-ity and yard art auction.
