Poplar Girls Fall Short Against Scotties

Poplar’s girls lost to Glasgow, 61-46, in the thirdplace game of the District 2B basketball tournament in Malta on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Scotties took an 18-6 lead in the first quarter and held a 35-18 half-time advantage.

Glasgow added 17 points in the third quarter for a 52-36 lead.

A three-pointer by Cammie Martell got the Indians as close as 10 points during the fourth quarter.

Morgen Nordwick led the Indians with 23 points. Braelynn Nordwick finished with seven points.

Also scoring were Rikki Belton with five, EmmaRae Martell with four, C. Martell with three, Jazmyn Carrywater with two and Bailey Dupree with two points.

Leading Glasgow were Carly Nelson with 19 points, Daley Aune with 15 and Joely Chappel with 12 points.

The Scotties hit 21 of 30 free-throw attempts in the contest. The Indians were 10 for 24 from the foul stripe.

Poplar will face Shelby at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, in the first round of the Northern B divisional tournament in Glasgow.
