Area Gymnasts Place In Kalispell
Nineteen gymnasts from Eastern Montana Gymnastics competed on Jan. 14-15 in Kalispell at the Glacier Challenge. EMG proved it was a force to be reckoned with by taking home many top placings against teams from Washington, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia and Alberta.
In the bronze level and at her first ever meet, Ila Lehner from Circle dominated by having the top floor routine out of all 99 gymnasts. She was also tied for second all-around out of all bronze gymnasts and was tied for third overall for her vault.
Also in bronze, Brooklyn Britt of Glendive and Allie Olson from Circle tied for fourth overall on vault.
In the silver level, Azzy Toavs from Wolf Point earned the second highest all-around and floor score out of all 135 silver gymnasts, in a commanding start to her competitive season. She was also tied for fifth on vault overall. Gold gymnast Lina Smith from Richey once again proved why she is the veteran in her 10 years with EMG, by winning balance beam and coming in third in the all-around, out of 106 gymnasts.
In addition to her spectacular overall placings, Lehner was first on vault, floor and all-around in her age group, as well as second on both uneven bars and balance beam. Cora Hove, Emersyn Knuth, Chassie Sikveland (all of Circle), Olson and Britt showed off their hard work by achieving some top placings in their first ever gymnastics competition at the introductory bronze level. Hove was first on balance beam and fifth on uneven bars, as well as tied for third all-around in her age group. Britt was first on vault in her age group, fourth on floor and fourth all-around. Olson was second in her age group on floor and third on vault. Sikveland tied for third on uneven bars in her age group, while teammate Knuth was fifth on vault.
Out of the 11 teams, EMG’s bronze team had the highest team score (top three scores) on vault.
In the silver level, in addition to her overall placings, Toavs was first on balance beam and all-around in her age group. She was also second on vault and floor and tied for third on uneven bars. Jud Rehbein from Richey, in her first meet as a silver gymnast, placed fourth all-around in her age group, as well as fifth on uneven bars. Macy Rau of Glendive was second on beam in her age group, as well as fourth on floor. Brooklynn Boren of Glendive had some solid routines in her first meet at the silver level, with her highest placings being on vault and uneven bars.
EMG’s gold gymnasts had some wonderful achievements. Not all accomplishments are measured by scores or placings, and it’s always important to continue to work on competing new skills. Justine Massar of Circle hit her back walkover on balance beam, Kendra Linder from Glendive nailed her new front handspring, front tuck on floor and Ava Hove of Circle, Ella Beery from Circle, Aubrey Ziegler of Glendive, Justine and Kendra all competed a flyaway dismount off uneven bars for the first time. In addition to her overall placings, Smith was first on balance beam and all-around, tied for second on floor and fourth on uneven bars in her age group. In her first meet as a gold gymnast, Ziegler won uneven bars in her age group, as well as third place on balance beam and third all-around. Aspen Boje of Glendive had a stellar meet and was second on uneven bars and all-around, as well as tied for third on both balance beam and floor. Hove was third in her age group on balance beam and second on floor. She was also third allaround in her age group and fifth on uneven bars.
In her first year as a gold gymnast, Nomi Deserly of Wolf Point was third on balance beam, fifth on floor and fourth all-around in her age group. Ella tied for third on floor in her age group, and placed fourth on uneven bars, fifth on balance beam and fourth all-around. Justine was fifth on floor and also fifth allaround in her age group. Also a first-year gold, Emma Hove of Circle placed third on uneven bars in her age group. Rounding out the team, Kendra Linder was fifth on bars in her age group.
EMG’s next meet will be at the end of January in Fargo, N.D.
