Winter Storm Expected

Accumulations Heaviest East Of Wolf Point

As of presstime, winter weather warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service in Glasgow were projecting a snowstorm across the region, with accumulations building into Wednesday. Frazer School’s Cody Larson said school was canceled Monday in anticipation of the inclement weather.

At press time, NWSG meteorologist Ryan Bernhart told the Northern Plains Independent that accumulations will increase dramatically east of Wolf Point.

“There is a sharp gradient in the Wolf Point area,” Bernhart said. He said the gradient looks to be running southwest to northeast from approximately Plentywood in the north down to Frazer/ Oswego and further south from there. The Glasgow area is expected to see an inch or less, while Culbertson is expected to see a foot or more of snow. Wolf Point is expected to see 4-6 inches. Initial reports showing the storm impacting the area by Tuesday night have been amended due to changing conditions.

A Dec. 13 social media post from NWSG states: “Due to a slow down in the storm speed, snow will be delayed about 6 to 9 hours later than previously anticipated across the west. Otherwise, snow will gradually spread across southeast portions of our forecast area late this morning and back toward the west tonight into Wednesday. Snow may be heavy at times tonight into Wednesday. Blowing and drifting snow are expected with snow covered roads. Visibility along the Montana and North Dakota border may approach a half mile at times as winds may be gusting up to 30 mph. Check the forecast and road conditions before traveling and be sure to take along an emergency kit.”
