GNDC Offers Paths To Improves Lives, Area

The Great Northern Development Corporation continues working on programs so area businesses and individuals can enjoy success throughout the region.

The nonprofit organization based in Wolf Point serves the counties of Valley, Daniels, Sheridan, Roosevelt, Garfield and McCone.

Tori Matejovsky, executive director of GNDC, notes that some of the newer programs are housing related.

The organization is now one of the centers in the state that provides guidance with the Montana Rental Assistance Program. A staff member is dedicated to help individuals with that program.

Plans are for the clean-up of the property located across from Southside School. Two single-family homes will be constructed.

“That was a funding source that was new, so we’re still working on state regulations,” Matejovsky said.

A goal is to establish a pool where money is kept through a sale of one property and utilized to develop another property.

“It’s a great pilot program for the city of Wolf Point,” she said.

GNDC is working with the Montana Health Care Foundation to bring entities together representing housing and health care. The plan is to discuss the importance of quality housing as far as maintaining adequate health.

This spring, officials are planning a seminar aimed at retirement ready individuals regarding how to exit your business operation. “It will cover how to get your business ready for the next set of hands,” Matejovsky said.

Another seminar being planned will deal with daycare needs and challenges. Local officials recently attended a conference in Richland County that provided a lot of information.

A matched savings program is available where individuals can put funds into an account and Neighborworks will match up to $500. A matched savings program is a powerful tool for you to use to build a habit and practice of saving. This program also offers you quality financial education and counseling with our network of certified housing counselors, giving you the tools you need to have healthy finances and be prepared for unexpected expenses.

GNDC is still looking for a community development specialist. The full-time position offers an individual to use grant writing, economic development and community communications skills.
