Gordon Seeks House 31 Position

Republican Arlie W. Gordon is challenging incumbent Democrat Frank J. Smith for the seat in House District 31.

Gordon was born in Wolf Point and raised on a ranch south of Wolf Point near Oswego. After moving to Fort Peck, he graduated from Nashua High School in 1965.

He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years and then went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He moved back to Fort Peck in 1975.

Gordon’s experience includes serving as the mayor in Fort Peck for nearly two terms and being judge in Fort Peck from 1987-1993.

Gordon explained he entered the House race after being urged to by the Republican Central Committee.

He said he was pleased with the support he received during the primary election and has received some donations.

“My agenda is trying to keep government a little smaller, keep taxes within reason and protect federal lands,” Gordon said.

He describes himself as socially and fiscally conservative.

“I don’t have any specific ax to grind,” Gordon said. “I want to do what’s right.”

Gordon is disappointed how radical some legislators have become.

“There’s no unity,” he said. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
