A search took place at a Roosevelt County residence on Monday, Oct. 3, as a result of suspected gang related activity.

Roosevelt County Sheriff Office officials reported the search of a resident outside of Wolf Point was conducted starting at 8:48 a.m. on Monday.

Found at the scene were one firearm, ammunition and some drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. Tim Lingle explained the search took place after receiving community concern and viewing “very alarming” social media posts.

A juvenile was taken into custody from a Wolf Point school prior to the search. The juvenile is being charged in juvenile court.

Roosevelt County Sheriff Jason Frederick said it was important to take the firearm out of the individual’s possession.

The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the sheriff’s office, Safe Trails Task Force, Fort Peck Tribal Police, Wolf Point Police Department and the Montana Highway Patrol.

The Safe Trails Task Force consists of a collaboration between the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Peck Tribes, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration. In Roosevelt County, the Safe Trails Task Force started in December of 2018 with the assistance of U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont. After meetings involving Frederick and FBI officials were held, many investigations and arrests have been made during the last five months.
