Bergum Donates Artwork To School
One of the highlights of Native American Week in Wolf Point was the donation of art work by Connie Bergum to the high school.
During an assembly, Bergum told students that she was inspired to create the piece after watching a troubling video regarding indigenous women.
She said she made the piece in honor of her Indian sisters.
“It makes me very happy to give this piece to the Wolf Point School and Wolf Point community,” Bergum said.
She said the donation wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Shelly Rodenberg.
The art piece is now hanging on the wall by the school’s north entrance.
The presentation came at the start of a program at the school featuring Native American women speakers.
Speakers included Angeline Check, Adriann Ricker, Megan Gourneau, Hillary Gourneau, Imogene Lilley, Carolyn Brugh, Lanette Clark, Stacey Summers, Shannon Dionne-Martell and Dyan Youpee.
Teacher Tressa Welch organized the special assembly.
“I want to give a shout out to Kim Hanks for the 20 years that she has given to the school and community,” Welch said. “We’re always taught to give credit when it’s due and she’s more than due.”
