Sherry Anne Fugere, 60, of Scobey died Sept. 3, 2022, in Scobey.

She was born Oct. 27, 1961, to Fern and Hope Fugere of Scobey. She graduated from Scobey High School in 1980, attended one year at Miles City Community College and then two years at Northern Montana College in Havre.

A cowgirl at heart, she was a rodeo participant and very active in the Western Club at NMC, an officer in the club and took on the role as “coach” — lining everyone out and taking care of them.

After Havre, she moved to Billings for a short time, until she realized home is where she wanted to be. She moved back to Scobey and started working at Citizens State Bank in 1985, which is now known as Independence Bank.

In 1985, she was crowned Scobey Saddle Club queen. She went to many rodeos with her niece Wanda and was always having a good time, especially with her sidekick Tressa. She loved the color purple and always had a streak of it in her hair.

She purchased The Slipper Restaurant and Lounge in Scobey from Jacki Thievin in December 2003, then sold it to Tana Leibrand in December 2005. She was always helping others out when needed — at the Burger Hut for numerous summers and sometimes at Banjo’s Club 109 and R-TUR’s Saloon, all in Scobey. On Valentines Day in February 2005, she started working for Daniels Sheridan Federal Credit Union and was still working there (17 ½

years) until her diagnosis of cancer.

The Daniels County Fair became her baby for many years and she took pride in bringing what she could to her community, right to the end. In July 2018, U.S. Senator Steve Daines named her Montanan of the Week for “going above and beyond over the past 15 years to ensure the success of the Daniels County Fair and bringing families and community together.”

She is survived by significant other, Johnny A. Thiers Sr.; and siblings, Danny Fugere, Charlotte Bucklin and Kristy Voorhees.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2022 at St. Philip Bonitus Catholic Church of Scobey with Fr. Arumugam A. Kumar officiating. Interment will follow at Daniels County Cemetery.
