County Receives Largest Oil Check In Years

Roosevelt County received its biggest payment from the state for oil production taxes in eight years for the first quarter of 2022.

Commissioners received the payment of $824,461.93 from the state for the end of the first quarter. Checks usually come about five or six months after a quarter ends.

“That’s the highest it’s been since September 2014,” Roosevelt County Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said. “It was over a million then.”

Commissioners noted the figures will be divided among the county’s departments.

Since the barrel price was high during the second quarter as well, the county anticipates another big check for that time frame.

Commissioner Duane Nygaard noted that activity appears to be increasing in the Bainville area with Kraken and Oasis during the drilling.

The total amount of oil revenue payment from the state to Roosevelt County was $2,112,921.41. The other funds went to school districts in the county, elementary retirement, high school retirement and countywide transportation.

Richland County received $8,276,053 including $3,802,846 for county government.

Valley County received $61,726.19 including $24,313 for county government.

The amount received by Sheridan County was $566,745.72 including $265,010 for county government.

Fallon County received $2,913,468 including $1,414,488 for county government.

Powder County received $2,441,430 including $1,617,447 for county government.
