Living History Weekend Sept. 3-4

Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site has announced their annual Living History Weekend dates: Sept. 3-4. Living History volunteers and members from the local Fort Union Muzzle Loader Association will bring history to life through historical dress, demonstrations, crafts, tools, and stories.

Saturday from noon - 2 p.m. CDT will feature art programming. Before cameras, copiers and the internet, images were made and shared through hand-pressed prints. Visitors can learn the historical art of printmaking using modern techniques they can reproduce at home. This free art program is open to all ages and is provided through a partnership with the Long X Arts Foundation.

On Saturday, the popular Last Bell Tours begin. Visitors step back in time during candlelight tours that guide visitors through a series of short plays that tell the story of Alexander Harvey, a rough and tumble character whose vendetta made trouble at Fort Union. Tours begin at 8 p.m. and run every 15 minutes.

Park hours are from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. CDT daily at Fort Union. Scheduled activities run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT daily plus the special Last Bell Tours only on Saturday evening, Sept. 3.
