Funeral services for Carol Neufeld were held Friday, Aug. 5, at the MB Church. Her courageous battle with cancer and her faith was a deep inspiration to many people attending.
The Sam Ortmanns lost about 400 acres of pasture in a prairie fire the first week of August. Farmers are nearing the end of pea harvest and beginning wheat harvest.
Dan and Melody Nickel reported on their work in Ireland at the Lustre EMB Church Aug. 7. Melody is the sister of Sharon Skillman. They also spoke at a home-based fellowship.
Lustre Grade School and Lustre Christian High School will be welcoming students back to school on Aug. 24. Vacations are coming to an end. The Lustre Christian High School opening program is 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28.
The Dwaine Wall family gathered at the Richfield, Minn., home of Roberto and Heather Atienza on Aug. 6 to celebrate their eldest son Dietrich’s graduation from high school. About 45 attended and enjoyed the Filipino foods and meeting people. He will be entering Northwestern Bible College at Roseville, Minn., studying to be a teacher. Jill Grassley, U.S. Director of CEBU Children’s Shelter; Matt and Heidi Burns of Mankato, Minn.; Gretchen Schiller of Lustre; and Matt and Katrina Plueger and families were among those attending. Roberto and Heather Atienza and three teens return to the Philippines on Aug. 23-26. As field director, Roberto has been raising support for the shelter that specializes in the care of handicapped individuals who have been rescued from the streets, or similar unfortunate circumstances. Some of these children have “aged out” and are no longer eligible for adoption after age 16. They are developing individualized programs to help launch these youth into productive lives.
The hot temperatures and grasshoppers slicking the highway will also earmark this year.
Former Lustre news correspondent and ongoing contributor Carolyn Fauth, who now lives in Glasgow, recently celebrated her birthday.
