Bigleggins Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter

Laval John Bigleggins, 36, of Wolf Point was arraigned or appeared last week before U.S. Magistrate judges on indictments handed down by the Grand Jury or on criminal complaints.

Bigleggins is facing the charge of involuntary manslaughter.

If convicted of the most serious crime, Bigleggins faces a maximum of eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. Bigleggins was detained pending further proceedings.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Fort Peck Law Enforcement Services, Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Highway Patrol investigated the case.

According to federal court documents, Bigleggins on or about May 28, 2021, at or near Fort Kipp committed reckless driving which was the proximate cause of the unlawful killing of a female.

The charging documents are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
