Wild West Days Planned In Poplar

A parade, horseshoe competition and tugs of war are scheduled to be among the highlights of Wild West Days in Poplar on June 9-12.

The “Cowboy Hats and Horseshoes” parade will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday through Main Street. There will be a ping pong drop after the parade. There will also be a parade starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Other activities on Saturday will include a community breakfast from 8-10 a.m. by the Poplar Blue Church at the bank’s parking lot. A community rummage sale is offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the bank’s parking lot. A community pie social is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Catholic church will proceeds going to the Poplar Fire Department. Mechanical bull riding is scheduled by Dad’s Bar west of the bank starting at 6 p.m. Music at the Legion starts at 9 p.m.

A rodeo starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Poplar Saddle Club.

A horseshoe tournament is scheduled for Friday. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and play starts at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $20. The top three placers will receive prizes.

The Fort Peck Tribal Elves invite youngsters to take part in a tug of war competition beginning at 5 p.m. Registration starts at 4 p.m. Age divisions are 8 and under, 9-13, 14-17, adult women and adult men. Four-person teams are limited and there’s a $20 entry fee. Prizes will be awarded to the first-place champs. Forms can be obtained from Luanne, 406-768-8734, or Sunee, 406-768-7772.

A kids’ parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday. Kids’ day races begin at 10:30 a.m. at the school. Carnival games, inflatables, Wild Wacky Hair and other kids’ activities begin at 11 a.m.

Also on Friday, EMS is holding a breakfast fundraiser from 7-10 a.m. west of the bank. Music at the Legion starts at 9 p.m.

Scheduled for Thursday are a fun run with registration at 4 p.m. and the start of the race at 5 p.m. at the Fort Peck Community College’s lawn.

The Poplar Volunteer Fire Department will hold a community barbecue starting at 6 p.m. at the fire hall.

Cowboy Church at First Presbyterian Church begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The burger stand is open beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
