Mildred Longee, 72, of Poplar died at the Poplar Community Hospital on Feb. 4, 2022.

“Mama Midge” as she was known by many was born on Dec. 9, 1949, to Elsie Long Lone and William Longee. She was a hard worker most of her life, even working for Norman and Vera Hollow in her early 20s. She worked various jobs until 2001, when she started cooking for Senior Feeding Program. She worked there until a couple months before her death.

She attended Fort Peck Community and attained her GED there in the early 1990s.

She met Bobby Foot and later parted. To this union, she had Sarah Conquering Bear. She would later meet Eugene Hale Sr. They married and later divorced, but continued to remain friends. To this union, they had Anita Hale and Eugene Hale Jr. She met Edward “Boy” Jones and had two girls with him, Tanya Nation and Priscilla Jones. They would later separate. She then met Steven “Sawhorn” Jones Jr., and had two children, Sonia and Steven Jones. They remained together until his death in 1984. She later reconciled with Edward “Boy” Jones and had another daughter, Jennifer Jones. They remained together until his death in 1988.

She was a quiet type of person until you got to know her. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working, reading, fixing puzzles, doing puzzle books, playing machines and spending time with friends or whoever stopped by to visit and sit with her to put a couple pieces of puzzle in with her.

She was preceded in death by son, Eugene Hale Jr.; grandson, Phillip Red Eagle; great-grandson, Dustin Scott Jr.; siblings, Wilma Longee-Feather, Alfred Longee, Hazel Longee, Charles Longee, Merle Longee, Allen Longee and Minerva Alberts.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Rose Kollman and Verlynn Longee, both of Williston, N.D.; children, Jennifer Jones, Steven Jones III, Sonia Jones, Priscilla Jones, Tanya Jones and Anita Hale, all of Poplar, and Sarah Conquering Bear of South Dakota; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 14, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Burial was at Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
