Walking Eagle Faces Drug Charges
Amaris Mariscal-Walking Eagle is facing two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is scheduled to make her initial appearance in district court on Wednesday, Dec. 15.
Maximum penalties for the criminal possession of dangerous drugs felony charges are five years in jail, a $5,000 fine or both.
For the misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges, maximum penalties are six months in the county jail, a $500 fine or both.
According to court documents, officer observed Walking Eagle passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was running in Poplar on Nov. 7.
The officers discovered multiple strips of tin foil, two tooters, a tube filled half-way with suspected meth and 10 fentanyl pills.
In addition, on June 5, 2020, a highway trooper saw a vehicle with only one functioning headlight and temporary tags. After the highway patrol started to follow, the vehicle slowed down and then accelerated on U.S. Highway 2, heading west out of Poplar.
During the pursuit, speeds went in excess of 100 miles per hour. A plastic baggie was thrown out of the passenger side’s window.
Spike steps were deployed just west of the Poplar bridge and disabled the vehicle. After the stop, driver Buddy Gene Walking Eagle and passenger Amaris Mariscal- Walking Eagle were taken into custody.
After obtaining a tribal search warrant for the vehicle, law enforcement discovered a plastic baggie containing 14.39 grams of white crystal like substance that tested positive for meth, 98 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, one journal containing a ledger and one digital scale.
