Wolf Point Receives Grant For Sewer Project

The City of Wolf Point has received notification that it has been awarded $2 million through the American Rescue Plan Act Water and Sewer Minimum Allocation Grants. The grant is for the Wolf Point Wastewater System Improvement project.

“I’m immensely excited,” Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said. “We will be doing a $4 million project fully funded with grant money.”

Dschaak said surveying for the project is being conducted now. The project will be put out for bid in 2002, and construction will start in the summer of 2022.

“Montana is leading the nation in making critical water and sewer infrastructure investments, with more than 80 percent of them supporting our rural communities,” Montana Gov. Gianforte said in a previous press release. “With funds devoted toward constructing new systems and improving existing ones, more Montana communities will have access to reliable, sustainable water and wastewater systems.”

As far as other city developments, Dschaak is pleased that workers have been busy improving Wolf Point’s water system. They have been updating many of water valves.

The mayor said the Wolf Point Police Department is still looking to fill one officer position.

He said the city will pursue the public safety levy again next spring. The mill levy provides the city with up to $100,000 a year.

“That’s needed to let us maintain services with our tax base shrinking,” Dschaak said.
