The 55th Go-Getters Annual Youth Rodeo was held at Go-Getters arena south of Wolf Point Sunday, Sept. 12. The rodeo started at 9 a.m.

Arena director Del Hansen said the event went smoothly. “It was a really good weekend, good turnout,” said Hansen. “The best part of putting this rodeo on is watching the kids that compete ever year and get better and better.”

Events included goat tying, barrel racing, flag race, pole bending, key hole race, steer undecorating, breakaway roping, team roping, sheep riding and a wild calf race. Participant ages included eight years to 18.

Robert Toavs was the announcer.

The Wild Horse Stampede Miss Teen Rodeo 2021 was on hand to lend a little glamour to the occasion.

“Today was very fun and eventful,” said Reed. “We had a great turn out and had a bunch of kids travel from all over to come and compete. Today we didn’t have any major accidents so that’s always something to be thankful for.”

Reed said the Stampede honor led to Go-Getters.

“I had been invited to many rodeos to represent,” she said, “but Go-Getters was one that I wanted to go to with all of my heart. I grew up competing in the queen contest that was held at go getters and that was what sparked my interest in the contests themselves. So to be able to show those girls where they could go if they never give up was important to me. My mother and I judged the queen contest which was an honor, and as I walked around in between events and had a bunch of little kids coming up to me telling me how good they did and how excited they were that I was there. That is the reason we do it, the smile and glow on the kids face is what makes all of the hard work worth it.”

In 14-18 age group for team roping, Tatum Hansen and Rance Rhoads came in first place. Talley Berwick was first in breakaway roping and steer undecorating. Taylor Mury came out in front. Talley Berwick also won poles, barrels and goat tying. Jayden Murnion placed first in flag.

In the 9-13 group, Madison Harris won goat tying. Taylor Arneson won goat tail tying. Madison Harris won barrels and keyhole. Royce Strobbe won flag race. Evyn Reid won poles. Blake Ozark won steer undecorating. Flint McEwen and Madison Harris won breakaway and Harris and Blake Ozark won team roping.

The all-around awards for the 14-18 category were Talley Berwick and Jayden Murnion. Madison Harris and Flint McEwen won 9-13 and Cort Belling won 8-under. Rehme Whitebear and Khloe Kaufman were tied for best allaround 8-under.
