Bulls Score Win Over Wolf Point


The sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Post #49 Bulls edged Wolf Point, 9-5, in a well-played American Legion baseball contest played in Froid on Thursday, June 17.
Wolf Point enjoyed the better of it early in the game. The Yellow Jackets opened with four runs in the top of the first inning as Preston Swenson, Gage Bushman, Charlie Page and Terry Allmer all crossed the plate. Allmer and Logan Brown connected for singles in the inning.
The Yellow Jackets added a run in the second inning when Swenson scored for a 5-0 advantage.
The pitching of Easton Tommerup of Plentywood was able to hold Wolf Point in check the rest of the game.
Wolf Point’s Swenson held the Bulls scoreless until a triple by Issac Johnson knocked in Parker Dean during the bottom of the third. Dean reached base on a double with one out in the frame.
Payton Hauge and Parker Sinks reached base and ended up scoring on passed balls in the fourth to pull the Bulls to 5-3.
Tommerup opened the bottom of the fifth with a triple and then scored on a wild pitch for a 5-4 contest.
Walker Ator walked and scored in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-5 deadlock. With two outs, Dean singled home Kieran Hernandez to put the Bulls in the lead.
After Tommerup was hit by a pitch, Johnson belted a triple to bring home Dean and Tommerup. A double by Colter Oie scored Johnson for a 9-5 margin.
Two batters reached base for the Yellow Jackets in the seventh but were unable to score.
Johnson and Dean led the Bulls with two hits each. Johnson accounted for three runs batted in.
Tommerup pitched the distance for the victory. He allowed seven hits and struckout four batters.
Bushman led the Yellow Jackets with two hits.
Swenson put together a solid game in five and twothirds innings on the mound.
In the second game of the double-header, the Bulls tallied nine runs in the third en route to a 15-5 victory.
The Bulls scored first when Johnson doubled and scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first.
Wolf Point tied the game in the top of the third when Mitchell Brown scored on a bases-loaded walk.
The Bulls accounted for nine runs in the bottom of the third to gain control. A double by Justice Bengochea scored two of the runs. Braeden Romo also doubled in the frame.
Wolf Point responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Connecting for singles in the frame were Swenson, Page and Allmer.
A single by Bushman drove home Javan Snyder in the fifth to pull the Yellow Jackets to 10-5.
The Bulls struck for four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Romo doubled to drive home one of the runs.
Ator scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning for the 15-5 final.
Romo led the Bulls with three hits. Johnson and Oie added two hits each. Oie had three runs batted in while Romo and Bengochea each had two. Johnson and Ator each scored three times.
Pitching for the Bulls were Dylan Tabbert, Ator, Bengochea and Payton Perkins.
Bushman accounted for two of Wolf Point’s seven hits. Page finished with three runs batted in.
Allmer and Bushman pitched for the Yellow Jackets.
