Perry Lilley Appointed To Library Board

The Roosevelt County Library Board held their regular meeting May 15. The meeting was conducted via Zoom.

Board chairperson Beth Hekkel was in attendance, as was vice chair Gloria Mason, trustees Helen Welte and Perry Lilley and director Janet Livingston. Montana statewide consulting librarian Suzanne Reymer was also on the call.

The Roosevelt County Commissioners appointed Lilley to the vacant post for Wolf Point. Hekkel welcomed him to the board. Livingston has also contacted the commissioners to put out an ad to all county employees regarding the need for a trustee from the Froid area.

Livingston requested a wording change in the Patron Behavior Policy regarding the Minor Disruptive Behaviors section. A motion was made by Mason to accept the wordage change as requested. Welte seconded. Motion carried.

The library system has received a grant from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation in the amount of $1,000 to be used for the summer reading program.

Leona Colvin, Culbertson Public Library staff member, reported on the pie social hosted by the Culbertson Women’s Club. It was a success raising $937.

Livingston attended the MLA conference via Zoom April 14-17.

Northside Elementary School was contacted for a lesson on the differences between Accelerated Reader, Lexile Level, Fountas and Pinnell, which students and teachers use for reading.

Livingston and Lilley attended the Golden Plains Federation meeting April 29. The main discussion was regarding weapons in the library and what staff may and may not do according to the new law.

A Mother’s Day card workshop for youth was hosted at the main in Wolf Point May 4 and 6. It was deemed a success, so a Father’s Day card workshop is planned for June 17.

Staff opened the public bathroom on May 6 with posters stating staff are not able to sanitize behind each patron and to please wash hands.

Livingston signed up for the Rural Libraries Summit for May 25. The conference was to be held via Zoom.

The minutes from the March 13 meeting were reviewed and approved. The statement of accounts was reviewed. According to Livingston, there were no out-of-ordinary purchases.

Livingston and Welte updated members on ideas the Friends of the Library have for upgrading the basement at the main, which includes putting up walls, painting and adding more electrical outlets. The FOL will meet again June 24 for further discussion.

The FOL are also planning an open house in recognition of Pat Henry on June 17 at 11 a.m.

The next board meeting is tentatively set for Saturday, July 24, at 10 a.m.
