As we enter into the fikfth month of COVID-19 restrictions at Roosevelt County Aging Services, we continue to wonder along with the rest of the world just when we will be able to return to normal operations.

As an entity that provides services to what is considered the most vulnerable of populations, we find ourselves in an even more guarded position than most.

At this time, the State Aging Office continues to recommend that senior centers remain closed and older adults continue to shelter in place as much as possible. We have been advised that until Governor Bullock moves our state into a “Phase III” status, our usual way of doing things must remain extremely limited in order to provide for the protection and safety of those we serve as well as the health and safety of our aging services employees and the family they return to at the end of each work day.

At this time, we have no indications as to when “Phase III” may occur. With the dramatic increase in positive COVID cases across the state since the Governor’s implementation of Phase 2 on June 1, I wouldn’t expect that this will be anytime soon.

We continue to cook and provide meals at our Bainville, Culbertson, Froid and Wolf Point centers but they remain a “grab and go” meal that can be picked up at noon and must be pre-ordered by calling the specific center each morning of the day one would like a meal. In Poplar, the Buckhorn Café is providing senior meals each Wednesday while providing for social distancing at the restaurant. Our cooks, assistants and contractor have been doing an amazing job working under these parameters and deserve a huge “thank you” (or two!) for the maintaining their commitment and sense of humor in spite of the ways COVID has complicated their usual duties.

We want to remind people that the main office located in the Senior Services building across from the courthouse in Wolf Point is “open” for other business as well. Our door remains locked, but those needing assistance with Medicare, Social Security, prescription drugs and any other possible resources available to those 60 and older only need to contact this office to schedule an appointment. If you need assistance outside of the Wolf Point area or are unable to come to us, we can come to you. We often utilize the Community Center in Culbertson for those located in the eastern half of the county and have made many inhome visits for those unable to come to us.

Contact 653-6221 if you have questions or concerns. We look forward to the time when we can return to some “new normal” where we can see each other face to face again. In the meantime, we will continue to update you as more information or guidance is provided. Stay safe.
