Culbertson Youth Softball Season Now Underway

Community News Staff The Culbertson softball program is looking very strong this summer.

The minor team, for girls in ages 9-12, has 20 players which is a great improvement from a season ago.

“Last year, we didn't have a minors team at all,” coach Julia Lee said. “We had only five girls signed up.”

She doesn't know for sure why there was a great increase in numbers.

“I honestly wonder if they are kind of stir crazy and wanted to do something,” Lee said.

Another factor might be that Culbertson's majors team won the league championship last summer.

“So, maybe the girls thought they were going to do it and have fun,” Lee said.

Other teams playing in the minors league include Plentywood, Crosby, Wolf Point, Scobey A and Scobey B. Culbertson's schedule includes a game at Scobey on June 23 and at Plentywood on June 30.

Culbertson's majors team features an experienced roster.

The squad aims to repeat as league champions. Culbertson opened its season with an 18-13 victory over Wolf Point.

“I hope so,” Lee said of repeating. “We have our entire team back, plus a couple of new ones.”

Other squads in the majors league include Plentywood, Crosby, Wolf Point, Scobey and Bainville.

Culbertson's schedule includes a game at Bainville on June 16, at Scobey on June 23 and at Plentywood June 30.

The round-robin league schedule is scheduled for June 29 through July 1.
