RMHF Scholarship Winners Announced
The Roosevelt Memorial Healthcare Foundation Scholarship Committee has announced that they have awarded two local students with $500 scholarships to be used toward beginning and continuing their education in healthcare.
This year’s recipients were Ashtyn Ator, a current senior at Culbertson High School, and Leona Lambert, a 2001 Bainville High School graduate who is working on her master’s degree in nursing. Both recipients grew up in the area.
Following her graduation in May, Ator plans to attend Montana State University - Billings and major in rehabilitation and human services. After earning her undergraduate degree, she plans to continue her education and pursue a career in clinical and therapeutic psychology.
“There is no better feeling in the world than knowing that you made someone feel better about what they are going through. My hope is that I will be able to use my education to further benefit and improve the community that has helped to shape my life,” Ator said.
Throughout high school, Ator was active in sports, science Olympiad, academic Olympics, pep-band and choir as well as student council, the national honor society and many others in which she received honors and awards.
Lambert has been a nurse for 17 years and is currently employed at Catholic Health Initiatives in Williston, N.D., as the director of maternal care. There, she oversees the obstetrics department. Currently, she is enrolled in a nursing leadership and management program at the University of Mary in Bismarck.
“I love mentoring and teaching new moms during this exciting time in their lives. It’s very rewarding to get to work them through this new adventure,” Lambert said.
Each year, the foundation board and its scholarship committee provide these opportunities in an effort to ease the high costs of attending college and reward students dedicated to their studies.
“It is always our hope that students return to the area one day to practice their skills in their hometowns to help ensure the area has access to quality healthcare into the future,” said Jaimee Green, foundation director.
Since the beginning of the scholarship program, a total of $9,000 has been awarded to local students who are Bainville, Froid and Culbertson High School graduates, or graduating seniors. Preference is given to those students seeking a healthcare related profession. The scholarship committee members change annually to ensure it is comprised of foundation members who do not have any friends or family members applying for the scholarships.
The grant becomes available in early January and closes March 15 of each year.
