Explosive Ordinance Causes Evacuation Of Wolf Point Homes

Malstrom Air Force Base’s Explosive Ordinance Division responded to a call for assistance from the Wolf Point Police Department Friday, March 27, after an 65mm artillery round was found at a local residence.

According the Wolf Point Police Chief Jeff Harada, a homeowner in the area of Fourth Avenue South and Edgar Street reported at 2:37 p.m. Thursday, March 26, that he had moved an explosive ordinance from his residence to a wood pile outside the home. He stated that he’d had possession of the ordinance for the past 30 years.

The WPPD secured the scene and evacuated several residences in the area while awaiting assistance from the Malstrom EOD team.

The EOD team arrived at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday, x-rayed the shell and determined that it was hollowed out.

Harada said he was thankful for the U.S. Air Force EOD team and noted that one of the EOD specialists said that they’d rather respond to find a dud than hear of a live explosion.
