Commissioners Purchase New 911 Callout System

The Roosevelt County commissioners held their regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 18. Commissioners Gordon Oelkers, Duane Nygaard and Gary Macdonald were in attendance. Donna Reum took notes for meeting minutes.

Minutes were accepted for the month of January and the Jan. 28 regular meeting.

The commissioners approved the purchase of a new mass callout/ reverse 911 system for the Fort Peck Tribes/Roosevelt County 911 Center.

Oelkers said the system is good for area residents, especially communities on the east end of the county like Bainville.

Jeff Wozniak with Fort Peck Tribes/Roosevelt County 911 Center told the commissioners that the mass callout system, which is already in place, helped create a buzz around the recent disappearance of 10-year-old Nickander Dewayne Dean Merculieff of Poplar, who went missing Feb. 6 and was found unharmed Feb. 7.

A no-pay, no-charge lease was approved for the Montana Department of Justice and the Motor Vehicle Division. The commissioners said that the arrangement was very beneficial for county residents.

“They provide tremendous service to the public,” said Macdonald.

A resolution regarding the use and disposal of junk vehicles was approved for preparation.

Discussion was held about getting a quote for a program to check and scan all emails for spam on all county computers. A resolution was passed to inquire about pricing and system requirements.

Discussion was also held about getting quote from State Workers Compensation for worker’s comp insurance. This insurance was previously offered by the Montana Association of Counties, but that organization is getting out of the business, said the commissioners.

Discussion about improvements and repairs to the cell tower in Culbertson were tabled until further information could be gathered.

The commissioners passed a resolution to advertise a request for qualifications for a new growth policy. Bids for the policy will be due by March 16 at 5 p.m. Check next week’s paper for further details.

Claims were accepted for Feb. 6 in the amount of $201,594.12.

Cindy Welch was approved for hire with aging services.

Pay raises were approved for dispatch employee Rachel Parker, attorney’s office employee Christa Wagner and detention center employee Tyler Sterling.

During additional administrative issues, a request for qualifications was approved for a new five-year engineering services agreement.
