Phyllis LaVon (Rudolph) Hubing, 88, of Circle died Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the McCone County Health Center.
She was born in Wolf Point on Aug. 14, 1936, to Elmer and Bertha (Toots) Rudolph. Elmer commented he had $7 left when he brought Toots and Phyllis home. She grew up on the farm northwest of Circle where she was later joined by her brother, Tom. She and Tom rode horses to school with their mom who was their teacher at Duck Creek School, then later at Fountain School.
She told stories of the shenanigans they got up to as children with Tom being the “mastermind” and her as the “stuntman” usually. There were also several stories of her driving skills coached by her brother. She enjoyed riding her horse, Lady, and the farm/ranch life.
She graduated from Circle High School in 1954. She was a proud Circle Wildcat all her life and was excited to ride on the McCone County Healthcare float in the Town and Country Day parade a few years ago in her Wildcat gear.
She attended Nurses training in Miles City at the Presentation School of Nursing and graduated in 1957. Part of her training was in Aberdeen, S.D., and the nursing students rode the train from Miles City to Aberdeen. She then worked for five years in various places including Yosemite Park, Cut Bank and Circle.
While working in Circle, she became reacquainted with Dale Hubing and they were married June 23, 1962. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. They had five children, Patsy, Cathy, Renee, Jon and Sherri. Family was everything to her and she spent many hours helping her children in their pursuits of rodeo, 4-H and school activities. She faithfully kept times and scores for all the rodeo events for many years, even after the children weren’t participating anymore. She served many years as a 4-H leader and made multiple trips to Bozeman to 4-H Congress as a chaperone.
She was a longtime member of Summit Homemakers Club, the Circle Cowbelles, as well as an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was also very involved with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She loved celebrating birthdays, Christmas and Easter with family. She was quick with a smile, had a great sense of humor and was the most selfless, gracious and generous person. Her never-give-up attitude was an inspiration to many. She spent her spare time knitting and cross stitching.
When her children were older, she returned to nursing and worked eight years at the McCone County Nursing Home and then served on the nursing home board for nine years.
She is survived by her husband, Dale; children, Patsy White, Cathy Workman, Renee Solberg, Jon Hubing and Sherri Eggebrecht; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Tom Rudolph.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 30, at Stevenson & Sons Chapel in Circle with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Circle. Rite of Committal will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Circle.
