Agreement Made For Poplar Law Enforcement

After a break of about three years, Roosevelt County is entering a new contract with Poplar to provide law enforcement. During 2020, it was agreed to not renew the contract between the sheriff’s office and the City of Poplar. The sheriff’s office had worked under a contract with Poplar since about 2014. The Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice took over the contract after 2020.

Whitmus To Serve As Grand Marshal

By Bill Vander Weele Don Whitmus is thrilled and honored to be selected as the grand marshal for the 101st annual Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede. This year’s Stampede is scheduled for July 10-13. Whitmus explained that he was invited to have supper during a Stampede committee meeting this spring. “Part way through the meeting, they said they selected me as grand marshal,” Whitmus said.

Officials Recover Body In River

The Roosevelt County Sheriff and Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law & Justice announced that at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3, searchers found and recovered Vinson Cooper’s remains from the Missouri River, approximately 1.5 miles downstream from where he disappeared May 27. An autopsy will be conducted at the state crime lab in Billings. Results will not be available for several weeks.

Marijuana sales dipped slightly during the month of April in Roosevelt County, according to figures from the Montana Department of Revenue. Overall estimated cannabis sales in Roosevelt County were $413,116 for April. That figures translates to $13,770 a day. The amount was $348,471 for recreational use and $64,645 for medical use. During March, the county had a total of $441,365 or $14,237

Clayton Airport during a meeting on Monday, June 3. The agreement allows four weather cameras to be purchased.
