A 30-year-old area man died in a fatality on U.S. Highway 2, mile marker 595, at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19. The fatal victim in the crash was Clay Nygaard of Wolf Point. Shaun Travis Marchwick of Culbertson admitted to four counts of violating his probation conditions during a hearing in district court June 12. The county attorney’s office filed a petition to revoke Marchwick’s 10-year suspended sentence on April 19. District judge David J. Cybulski sentenced Marchwick to the Montana State Prison for seven years, with three years suspended. The

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office responded to 71 calls from June 17-23. The incidents included the following: June 17 Deputies responded to Culbertson for a report of a possible violation of a no-contact order. Thomas Ivan Reese Larson, who admitted to beating a woman on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in 2021, was sentenced on June 20 to 15 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich said last week. The defendant, 25, pleaded guilty in February to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducted its second peak of water flows from Fort Peck late last week. During a conference call on Wednesday, June 19, John Remus, chief of the Missouri Basin Water Management Division, said the flow was at 14,500 cubic feet per second in Wolf Point. Attorney General Austin Knudsen has announced appointments to the Montana Missing Indigenous Persons Task Force. The task force’s main goals are to break down jurisdictional barriers and identify causes that contribute to missing and murdered Indigenous persons. Stacie FourStar, representing the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, was one of the individuals selected to the task force.
