DUI Task Force Scholarship Available

This year, the Roosevelt County DUI Task Force is offering a scholarship of $500 to any high school senior graduating in 2026 from a school within the boundaries of Roosevelt County. The focus of this year’s scholarship is to write an essay on how the student chooses to live above the influence of alcohol use, drug use, peer pressure, bullying, or any other negative influences around them.

Four new hunting districts across the state recorded a detection of Chronic Wasting Disease since July 2025, the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks said Friday, Jan. 9. The four districts were in FWP regions 3, 4 and 6. Those regions cover the south west, north central and northeast parts of the state. Tony Pedersen, 75, died Jan. 4, 2026, in Alaska. He was born in Plentywood on May 27, 1950, to Clearence and Milly Pedersen. He and Karen Kurokawa were married in November 1974 and had five children, Tomi, Toni, James, Luke and Jiro. He was a Viet Nam War veteran, diesel mechanic and long-haul truck driver. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy; three sisters, Conny, Karen and Faith; and a brother, Art. He is survived by seven children, Tony, Tomi, Toni, Luke, Jiro, Brandy and Jody; a brother, Danny; and many nieces and nephews in Plentywood. Services are planned sometime in the summer in Plentywood.
