Wolf Point Senior

Some of Wolf Point High School’s senior Nora Hansen’s brightest moments have come without speaking a word.

Hansen is entering her third year of a member of the school’s speech and drama team. She placed eighth at the state level in pantomime as a sophomore and won the divisional championship in the event as a junior.

“You get to use your own creativity to create a story line of your piece and make a poster for it,” Hansen explained why she enjoys mime. “You don’t need to speak aloud, which was one time an issue for me.”

Her goal for the upcoming season is to place at state. “I’m aiming for first but will see how it goes,” she said.

This year’s speech and drama program includes 29 students including a good amount of eighth-graders.

“It’s a really big team this season,” Hansen said. “I think we have a chance to bring home a team trophy from divisionals.”

Another love of Hansen’s is the school’s theater productions. In late November, the students will present “The More The Scarier.” Hansen describes the play as a spooky comedy.

“I’m an university professor who is interested in the super natural,” Hansen said of her role. “It’s pretty funny and there’s also some jump scare parts.”

The National Honor Society member says her favorite class is drama. She says she enjoys being part of a production and entertaining the audience.

Her favorite teacher is Jaki Harada, who is an assistant speech and drama coach. “She’s very kind and willing to talk about things,” Hansen said.

After high school, Hansen plans to attend the University of Montana and earn a doctorate degree in pharmacy.

“I’ve always been interested in a career that helps in some way,” Hansen said.
