Plans Continue For Former VFW Building

Great Northern Development Corporation/ Eastern Montana Brownsfi eld Coalition and the First Baptist Church have issued a notice of request for proposals for professional services in connected with the former Wolf Point VFW building located at 108 Main St. in Wolf Point.

The request for bids is for hazardous materials removal and building demolition.

A mandatory pre-bid site walk is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The proposal deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 11.

First Baptist Church has owned the building since 2015. A sub grant of $191,000 was awarded for the project.

Once the project is completed, the church can redevelop the site to something that is usable and benefits the community such as a gathering spot.

Pastor Michael Kauffold told this newspaper last fall that he has been trying to remove the former VFW building for about six years.

Kauffold said that originally ideas for the location included building a public food center and an after-school tutoring program facility. The pastor said construction costs have increased greatly since discussions took place seven years ago.

“That was our original goal,” Kauffold said. “We don’t know now quite yet. A lot of things have changed in seven years.”
