McGillis Standouts In Volleyball, Art

Scobey High School senior Paige McGillis displays a lot of ability whether as a volleyball player, an artist or a cheer team member for the Spartans.
As a member of the school’s art club, she participated in face painting and kids’ craft day last year.
“I enjoy art a lot,” Mc-Gillis explained.
She said painting is her favorite, but she likes sketching as well.
McGillis started playing volleyball in the fourth grade and still treasures playing the sport.
“I love my teammates. They are the main reason why I joined,” McGillis said. “I like everything that we do as a team.”
As a setter, she doesn’t remember a particular highlight. “I assist the highlights I guess,” she added.
She explains that each of Scobey’s talented hitters like certain locations for sets. Chloe Handran likes the ball off the net and further out. Emery Rouse wants the ball closer to the net. Ava Stentoft prefers the ball straight up and Halle Cromwell likes the ball off the net.
“They all have different spots,” McGillis said. After playing with Handran for four years and Rouse for three years, it’s easy for McGillis to remember the results which usually end in kills.
She has been a member of the cheer team as a sophomore and junior. She is hopeful that a someone steps forward to coach the team this winter so she can participate in cheer again.
“We started stunting this past year,” McGillis explained. “For our first year, I thought we did amazing.”
A highlight was performing at the Class C state basketball tournament because of the larger crowds.
Her favorite class is English and her favorite teacher is Melissa Holum. “She’s a phenomenal teacher,” McGillis said. “She’s taught us so much.”
The senior has lived in Scobey after moving to the community from Great Falls when she was 10 years old.
She admires the community aspect of Scobey. “If you have a problem, people are willing to help.”
After high school, she plans to study criminal justice at either the University of Providence in Great Falls or MSU Billings.
