Former Globetrotter Gives Inspiration To Students

Former Harlem Globetrotter Nick Moore provided inspirational words to students throughout schools on the Fort Peck Reservation during the week.

Nick Moore, while wearing a jersey that reads “Listen To Teachers,” stressed the importance of education to area students.

He explained that he has a wonderful position in life. “My job is going to schools and telling students how important they are,” Moore told the students.

He added, “I wouldn’t be up here today if it wasn’t for teachers. So please listen to your teachers. Respect your teachers.”

The former basketball players encouraged students to attend school every day and to complete their school work.

Moore said to Northside Elementary School students that they are going to make mistakes, but it’s OK to apologize for those mistakes.

He gave his own assignment to the students. “Starting tomorrow, I want you to give one person a compliment each day,” Moore said. “It takes five seconds to be nice.”

Moore asked students to be thankful for what they have and said, “Teachers just want you to try your best.”

He had the students yell “I’m somebody.” After the great majority of students raised their hands about wanting to attend college, he asked them what type of job that they hope to have as adults.

Moore also discussed bullying, the importance of school testing, following your dreams, being yourself and helping others.

He told students that he started speaking to students about 33 years ago. Moore said people told him that he couldn’t do it, but he believed in himself.
