Wheat harvest began this week and farmers have worked late hours. Half an inch of rain came Wednesday, Sept 2, with very sharp lightening after 10 p.m. Though it stopped harvest for a day or so, we are thankful the fire danger is down. It’s great to see the garden produce and the trucks moving.

The students at the Lustre Christian High School chapel were challenged “to know what they believe and why they believe it.” Dan Nickel said to “be prepared to share the gospel” when he spoke to them on Monday, Aug. 31.

Dan and Melody Nickel were Harvest Festival speakers at the Lustre EMB Church on Aug. 3031. They updated the congregation about their work in Ireland.

Dan spoke on evangelism and from Acts 14 on Monday night, sharing some of the questions that open the doors of conversation. He said “the jailer was in a very serious situation, but he went from being suicidal, to belief in Christ and Him alone.” He showed where opposition comes from, how it is resistant to the truth. He encouraged people “to read John’s Gospel. It is written for gentiles.” The Nickels have served in Ireland 41 years and it was great to see them.

The LCHS and LGS volleyball teams traveled to Froid on Thursday. The junior high team won its match with wins in the first and third games. The LCHS lost its match but gained experience.

Dwaine and Vivian Wall returned from Nebraska and Iowa where they visited her sister, Bob and Carolyn Lee, and their daughter, Matt and Katrina Plueger. Their granddaughter won the Reserve Grand Champion Fullblood Doe Boer Goat at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa as well as the Junior Champion Fullblood Doe Boer Goat at the Iowa State Fair. Sept. 2, Ellie won Grand Champion in Intermediate Showmanship at the 2026 Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island, Neb. The Pluegers raise Boer show goats and Highland cows.
