Wolf Point Cross Country Anticipates Strong Year
With the best turnout in years, Wolf Point cross country coach Stacey Summers is looking forward to a strong season for the Wolves.
The Wolves opened the season with 11 boys and six girls on the high school squad.
“It’s been awhile,” Summers said of such good numbers. “I have high expectations for the team. I’m really excited. I think we will do well at State.”
Among the leaders for the girls’ team will be Cali Gorder. The freshman placed 16th at last year’s state meet and she just missed earning All-State honors.
“I have high expectations for Cali,” Summers said.
Newcomers Caydee Gorder and Layla Headdress, who enjoyed an excellent track season, are also to be strong for Wolf Point’s girls.
Lakealah Mays returns for the Wolves and Erin Mudgett will help the team.
Returning boys include Reilly Rees, Kayeiko Villaluz, Andrew Williamson and Ezekiel Payne.
Kayden Beston and Kolter Berglee were standout runners for Frontier’s program last year and are anticipated to have great campaigns.
“With our upcoming freshmen and returning runners, we should have a good year,” Summers said.
The squad will open its season at the Wolf Point Invitational on Friday, Aug. 28. “People love the course. It’s nice and flat,” Summers explained.
The state meet will be held Oct. 24 in Billings. “I saw a lot of our kids working out this summer. They know what it takes,” Summers said.
