Wolf Point Council Talks Chickens, Ordinances

The Wolf Point City Council held its regular meeting Aug. 17. Noreen Hohman and the council discussed new tactics employed by the Wolf Point Police Department to control panhandling and public intoxication on city streets. Police Chief Anthony Cambridge answered questions.

Public Works director Ed Bach said sink holes need to be filled on Fairweather Street. He added that complaints on Facebook do not reach him or his department regularly. Bach said residents with concerns about streets or weed spraying should contact him via the city office at 406-653-1852.

Soccer and flag football programs are being offered via the recreation department this year. Mayor Chris Dschaak said community members interested in participating should contact the city for more information.

Greg Lukasik with Great West Engineering gave an update about wastewater improvement projects. Bids have been opened for replacing the blower at the city lagoon. Cop Construction was approved for the job.

A new contract for city court clerical services was approved for $19,301.

Dschaak said it has come to his attention that some city residents are currently housing chickens. “Per the current ordinance, chickens are not allowed within city limits,” Cambridge said. He will begin enforcing the language in October. Dschaak also spoke about the current vehicle parking ordinance, reminding residents that any vehicle which has not been moved within five days is subject to tow. Warnings are being issued by city officers. Enforcement efforts will being in October.

The council discussed a plan to clean up four city properties in coordination with Roosevelt County, including one property at 229 Fairweather St. that the city would take over. A motion was passed to approve Dschaak to negotiate the purchase the Fairweather lot from the county.

The next regular meeting is set for Sept. 21.
