Poplar’s Football Team Begins Season With New Coach

The Poplar Indians look to score football victories this season under the guidance of new head coach Benny Lovan.

“We have a lot of returning kids,” Lovan said. “We’re building up the program. We want to bring some structure and discipline.”

Returning players for the Indians include Chasen Pribbernow, Chance Pribbernow, Houston Eder, A.J. Youngman, Rollen Spotted Bull, Finn Spotted Bird, Donald Ice Man and DeShaun Red Eagle.

The return of Keilen Erickson after missing rest season with an injury is a lift for the Indians. New juniors on the team are Juanito Garfield and Jayden Iron Moccasin.

Lovan said the team is busy learning a new offense and defense during the preseason.

“We have enthusiasm,” Lovan said. “They want to be here.”

The Indians will open their season at home against defending state champion Scobey on Friday, Aug. 28.
