Big Sky Field Welcomes Community For Open House

Community members gathered at Big Sky Field, commonly known as the Culbertson Airport, on Friday, Aug. 8, for an open house celebrating the airport’s newest addition.

The open house gave visitors a chance to tour the new building, which provides space for snow removal equipment as well as a new pilots’ lounge. Guests were also able to take a closer look at some of the airplanes housed in the airport’s hangars.

Root beer floats were served during the event, adding a sweet treat to an afternoon of visiting and exploring the improvements at the local airport.

While the new building provides much-needed space for equipment, the pilots’ lounge serves an important purpose for those flying in and out of Culbertson.

“The lounge offers a place for pilots to use the restroom and get a cup of coffee,” said Rick Knick, a member of the airport board. “Most notably, the medevac pilots use the lounge while waiting for the medical crews to prepare patients for transfer to a larger hospital.”

The new addition offers both practical improvements for airport operations and a welcoming space for pilots who use Big Sky Field, including those providing important medical transportation for the surrounding community.
