Optimists Plan “Fill A Box,” Bike Parade

The Optimist Club of Wolf Point is urging area residents to again donate in the group’s “Fill A Box” program. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

One change this year is the event is being moved to the gazebo at Sherman Park.

“It’s cooler down there and we have access to electricity,” Optimist member Carol Neutgens explained.

School supplies that people can donate include items such as pencils, pencil boxes, notebooks, hair clips and crayons. The supplies will then be presented to schools. Clothing items aren’t to be donated for this project.

Optimist members Gloria Sande and Neutgens say teachers appreciate the program so they aren’t in a position having to purchase supplies for students.

An addition to the day is a kids’ bike parade scheduled to start at 1 p.m. There will be prizes for a variety of age groups. This time is earlier than what was advertised last week.

Last spring, the Optimists conducted a project where they giveaway to local students 26 bikes donated by Pastor Greg Holler-Dinsmore.

“The kids who won bikes from us and Pastor Greg Holler- Dinsmore can now dress up their bikes,” Neutgens urged.

After the bike parade, Optimists will give out root beer floats or plain ice creams to celebrate the day.
