Circle Girl Scout Creates Community Gathering Space
Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming is proud to announce that Aubrey Moos, a Girl Scout from Circle, has earned the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award by creating a welcoming outdoor gathering space for residents and visitors alike.
For her Gold Award project, Moos designed and built a pergola adjacent to a small park located next to a local church in her community. The project also included the installation of two industrial- grade picnic tables and trash receptacles, transforming the area into a functional and inviting place where families, travelers, and community members can gather, relax and enjoy the outdoors.
“This park sits right along the main street in town, and it’s a place where community members, people attending church, and travelers often stop,” Moos said. “I wanted to create a covered space where people could spend time together, enjoy the park, or simply take a break while passing through.”
To ensure the project will benefit the community for years to come, members of the church have committed to maintaining the space, including trash removal and providing ongoing upkeep. Now a high school graduate, Moos plans to attend Miles Community College before transferring to Dickinson State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
Reflecting on her Gold Award journey, she encourages younger Girl Scouts to persevere. “Even though it’s a lot of work, just keep going because, in the end, it’s worth it,” she said.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, recognizing extraordinary leadership, dedication, and lasting impact. To achieve the award, Girl Scouts identify a meaningful issue in their community, develop a sustainable solution, and lead a project that creates positive change. The Gold Award challenges girls to think critically, collaborate with others, and make a difference that extends beyond their project. Earning the Gold Award demonstrates a commitment to service and leadership that prepares Girl Scouts to be changemakers throughout their lives.
