Brookman Rodeo Earns National Honor

Legendary Bucking Horses

Brookman Rodeo, the stock contractor for the Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede throughout many decades, received the prestigious Polaris Remuda Award from the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association in late 2025.

The honor goes to the contractor with the best pen of bucking horses to rodeos during the year.

“I was very honored and very surprised,” said Cathy Wieferich, who owns Brookman Rodeo with her husband, Dave. “There’s a lot of good horses and stock in the country.”

Cathy noted that Brookman Rodeo provided stock for a lot of rodeos last year and they have performed well. Some horses have won go-rounds at larger rodeos.

“It’s been a fantastic year,” she said. Cathy notes that it’s a good feeling to be mentioned with other high caliber companies. “It’s pretty special. There’s a lot of good contractors.”

Brookman Rodeo was presented the award during the PRCA Awards Banquet in Las Vegas on Dec. 3.

It has been a banner year for Brookman Rodeo.

The company got the news in October that its bareback horses SOS and Lunatic Heaven along with its saddle bronc horses Ragin Lunatic and Apollo were selected for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo held in Las Vegas, Nev., during early December.

“It’s exciting,” Wieferich said. “It’s quite a process. Having four selected is pretty honorable.”

Earlier, Lunatic Heaven was selected the Bareback Riding Horse of the Year as part of the 2025 Pendleton Whiskey Let ‘er Buck Bucking Stock of the Year Awards.

She feels her grandfather the late Marvin Brookman will be very pleased with the accomplishments.

“I believe he would be very proud,” Wieferich said. “I wish he could still be a part of it.”

Brookman Rodeo is based out of Sidney but its horses spend the summer in the Wolf Point area. The company raises about 15-30 colts a year.
